Bring your own laptop

This is an in-person class, and every student (or adult participant) needs to bring a personal laptop to each session — this isn't provided. Any Windows or Mac laptop from the last ~6 years with at least 8 GB of RAM (16 GB is even better) works fine. AI tools/subscriptions the program uses (like a Claude account) are billed to the student — we can set them up for you. We strongly recommend installing a kosher filter (such as TAG) on the laptop before the first class. Free WiFi at the studio, but bringing your own hotspot is recommended as a backup. Syllabus

The 4 Courses — what students learn

Four courses, 34 lessons total. Each course is a complete unit with its own Demo Day and certificate — finish one, enroll in the next. New students start at Level 1 unless placed higher at the onboarding assessment.

Level 1 — Foundations 8 weeks · $500

Build Your First Apps with AI. For total beginners. Students direct Claude to build real things from the very first class, learn to read the code it writes, and finish with a personal website live on the internet plus a working interactive app they built themselves.

  1. How software gets made today — prompt Claude and watch your first real webpage appear in the browser
  2. How the web actually works — files, browsers and servers; make your first hand-edits to real code
  3. Making it look good — colors, fonts and layout; learn to describe design to AI precisely
  4. Multi-page sites — grow one page into a real 3-page site with links, images and a nav bar
  5. What code IS — first JavaScript: buttons, clicks, and pages that actually DO something
  6. Reading code with AI — Claude explains code line-by-line; students find and fix planted bugs themselves
  7. Your first real app — build a full interactive app: a quiz game or a gematria calculator
  8. Going live + Demo Day 🎓 — publish to the real internet and present — every student leaves with a live link and a certificate
Level 2 — Developer 8 weeks · $600

Write Real Code. The training wheels come off: students write JavaScript by hand first and use AI as an assistant, not an author. They finish with real programming fluency, an app that saves data, and their code published on a GitHub portfolio.

  1. Working like a developer — professional tools (VS Code) and professional AI prompting habits
  2. Variables, types & functions — write them yourself first, then compare against the AI's version
  3. Logic: decisions and loops — code katas where AI may explain but never write
  4. Modeling real data — arrays and objects shaped like real life: rosters, inventories, schedules
  5. Controlling the page — build pages from data; add live search and filtering
  6. Apps that remember — browser storage: build a tracker whose data survives closing the page
  7. Git & GitHub — version control like a pro; every project published to a real portfolio
  8. Capstone + Demo Day 🎓 — finish the app, demo it, and explain your own code to the audience
Level 3 — App Builder 8 weeks · $700

APIs & Real Apps. Students connect their apps to the real internet — live weather, zmanim, and more — learn professional debugging (including catching the AI when it's confidently wrong), and plan and ship a polished multi-feature capstone like a working developer.

  1. APIs, part 1 — pull live data from the internet and learn to read JSON
  2. APIs, part 2 — build a whole app around live data — including handling failures gracefully
  3. Debugging bootcamp — DevTools, error messages, and the day the AI lies: verify everything
  4. Thinking in features — write a product spec before any code, like a professional
  5. Build sprint 1 — the capstone's riskiest piece working end to end
  6. Polish & UX — what separates amateur apps from professional ones: mobile, spacing, empty states
  7. Build sprint 2 — every feature complete, tested cold by real classmates
  8. Demo Day 🎓 — present the app and defend the architecture choices behind it
Level 4 — Full-Stack Builder 10 weeks · $1,000

Ship Real Products. The graduation course: students build a complete product — their own backend server, a database, user accounts with secure logins, and an AI feature powered by the Claude API — then deploy it live on the internet and launch it in front of an audience. Ends with the "earning with your skills" talk: freelancing and building for the community.

  1. How real products work — tour a real production app: frontend, backend, database
  2. Your first backend — run your own server and build your first API endpoints
  3. Databases — data that survives restarts: create, read, update, delete
  4. Users & logins — accounts and passwords done right — hashing and real security habits
  5. Building WITH AI — call the Claude API from your own code: an AI feature inside your app
  6. Deploying like a pro — real hosting, domains, environment variables, keeping secrets safe
  7. Capstone spec — scope the final product and commit to a 3-milestone plan
  8. Build sprint 1 — the riskiest piece works end to end
  9. Build sprint 2 — features complete, tested by real users, launch rehearsed
  10. Launch Day 🚀 — deploy, present, share real links — graduation + the parnassah talk
